The Brotherhood of the Black Heads was a guild, probably founded at the end of the 14th century. Their patron saint was Saint Mauritius, whose head appears in the brotherhood's coat-of-arms (which you can see above the door). This is also probably the origin of the brotherhood's name.
No-one can walk through Pikk street without noticing this building.
The house of the Brotherhood of the Black Heads has, what must be the most photographed door in Tallinn.
The brotherhood of the Black Heads had a close relation with the Dominicans of St Catherine's church.
