Between 2003 and 2006 an 8.5 meter long gun barrel was lying on top of a bunker in the forest that had covered the former Soviet base in Kukeraba on the Tahkuna peninsula. The 180 mm gun barrel which weighs approximately 10 tons was pulled out of a bog in 2003 and placed there for the enjoyment of visitors (see photo below).
In August 2006 two men stole the gun to sell it as scrap metal, cutting it in two in the process. A few days later they were arrested and the gun was recovered. It will henceforth be placed in a new museum about Hiiumaa's military history.
