This Dutch handmade design is a magical combination of movement and sound.
The heat of a candle expands and contracts the bi-metal stem, causing the little brass ball to dance back and forth, irregularly ringing the chime.
This finely tuned and precisely balanced design is made of brass and nickel-plated brass
The Little Vibes is part of a bigger family of three Vibing Objects, designed by Joris Sparenberg.
The history of the Vibes goes back to the day the inventor - in a moment of genius - put a piece of metal on the central heating. This coincidental action turned out to be the start of the Vibes. He had not put just a piece of metal on the heater, but a piece of bi-metal. Lingering with his thoughts in an early winter he saw the metal bending towards him and back again towards the heater, like it was whispering `hey, come over here I got an idea for you'.
Joris, who got his master's in Industrial Design at the Technical University of Delft was captivated by the phenomena of the moving metal. More than a year he experimented in his studio with pieces of bi-metal, electricity, light and heat in combination with all kind of objects.
Several times he wanted to give up and forget about this idea of movement. One day he thought back at the day it had all started, that late winter night when he sat there on his sofa and the little piece of bi-metal whispering to him through the gloomy winter light coming through the windows.
Then it hit him: Light, Movement and Sound, that's what it had been all along.
The combination of bimetal, candle light and a chime resulted in the first prototype a couple of months later. Other prototypes followed. The model shown here is the Little Vibe.
The size of the Little Vibes is 20 x 20 x 5 cm (8 x 8 x 2 inch).
People, companies and meditation centers who prefer one of the bigger models - the Inner Vibes or the Crystal Vibes - are requested to e-mail us.
We hope to hear from you if the Little Vibes will be in tune with your environment.
