Photos of the ruins of Helme church. The church was destroyed at the end of the second world war, when it was hit by a shell, that struck the organ. A few months later the tower fell due to instability caused by the explosion.
The drama did not end there, after the second world war, the vicar of the church was deported to Siberia by the Soviet "liberators". He never returned.
The walls of the church are punctuated with bullet and shrapnel holes, still showing the evidence of the war.
There is also a storknest on the ruins.
